THINGS TO KNOW
If you want more than a ride through gold country, if you're looking for more than a brewery taste-test tour, this is the motorcycle ride for you! This tour packs it all in over the course of five days. The best Sierra passes, the ‘Little Dragon’, giant sequoias, Lake Tahoe, Volcanoes, the California North Coast, Craft Breweries, and, of course, the famous 140 miles of curves on Highway 36! From gold mining towns, to the Sierra Nevada, and all the way back to the North Coast for a final ride back to San Francisco, we promise this tour will be a week well spent.
Travel Course
TOUR SCHEDULE
(215 MILES)DAY 1—Foothills
San Francisco – Mt. Hamilton – La Grange – Coulterville – Mariposa
Day 1 sees us transiting the tallest peak in the Bay Area on our way to explore old gold mining towns and the foothills of the Sierra Nevada where we will thrill to ride the Little Dragon into Mariposa.
(365 MILES)DAY 2—The High Sierras
Mariposa – Lee Vining – Bodie – Sonora/Arnold
Day 2 is a full day crisscrossing the highest paved roads in the Sierras, exploring Yosemite National Park, a well-preserved ghost town and California Gold Country.
(190 MILES)DAY 3—Lake Tahoe
Sonora – Columbia – Big Trees – Topaz – Truckee
On Day 3 we will spend a little more time exploring with visits to Giant Sequoia trees and a living gold rush town featuring the largest single collection of existing gold rush structures in the state before ending our day at beautiful Lake Tahoe.
(370 MILES)DAY 4—To The Coast
Truckee – Quincy – Lassen – Red Bluff - Fortuna/Eureka
Day 4 is another full day taking us from the California and Nevada border, over an active volcano, through the Central Valley, and to a long road of curves which finally deposits us on the gorgeous Pacific Coast.
(300 MILES)DAY 5—North Coast
Eureka/Fortuna – Avenue of the Giants (or Petrolia) – San Francisco
Our final day of this tour starts with a choice: Through the town of Ferndale with its fabulous 19th century homes known as Butterfat Palaces and into the little known Lost Coast of California; or exploring the Six Rivers Region with the Avenue of the Giants. Whichever we choose we will eventually follow the Pacific Coast Highway all the way back into San Francisco.
