TOUR SCHEDULE
(180 MILES)DAY 1—Mendocino County
San Francisco – Bodega Bay – Fort Bragg
We ride the least traveled part of the Pacific Coast Highway up into Mendocino County.
(330 MILES)DAY 2—Trinity Alps
Fort Bragg – Weaverville – Eureka
Exploring the Trinity Alps, Six Rivers region, and famous Highway 36, including a stop at a Chinese Joss House Temple...for luck, before getting back to the coast and the breweries of Eureka.
(240 MILES)DAY 3—Klamath River
Eureka – Cave Junction – Medford
We will follow the twists and turns of the Klamath River through Big Foot (aka “Sasquatch”) Country before heading into the Willamette River Valley of Oregon.
(240 MILES)DAY 4—Into Oregon
Medford – Crater Lake – Bend
Takes us across the Cascade Mountains and into the high desert region of Sunny Central Oregon. We will get to see Crater Lake, a caldera lake famous for its deep blue color and water clarity before heading into the Beer and outdoor activities Mecca that is Bend Oregon.
(REST DAY)DAY 5—Bend
Explore Bend or ride the High Desert of Central Oregon
A day to relax and explore Bend and its offerings. Go fly-fishing, white water rafting, hiking...or all three before visiting some of Bend’s 22 breweries. Or, if you’d rather ride and explore...check out the McKenzie Highway and the Dee Wright Observatory for views of this volcanic region.
(245 MILES)DAY 6—Northern Oregon
Riding NE Oregon and Hells Canyon 2nd night Baker City
Now we are heading further east and into lands many Americans never take the opportunity to discover. We will take the Journey Through Time Scenic Byway, visit the sublime Painted Hills and ride smooth curvy roads...what’s not to love?
(170+ MILES)DAY 7—Northeastern Oregon
Baker City
This will be an out and back day of discovery in Northeastern Oregon including the magnificent Hells Canyon and Snake River ride. NE Oregon is a rider’s paradise!
(388 MILES)DAY 8—Lolo Pass
Baker City – Lolo Pass – Missoula
Yes, we have tracks to make today, but we ride in gorgeous largely unpopulated lands including the Lolo Pass where we will take a short walk into a natural hot springs to soothe our bodies before dropping into the Old West and current college town of Missoula Montana for the night.
(250 MILES)DAY 9—Glacier National Park
Missoula – Glacier National Park
Almost on the Canadian border is Glacier National Park and the Going to the Sun Highway. We will enter the park from the east side.
(REST DAY)DAY 10—Explore Glacier National Park
Glacier National Park
A day to explore Glacier NP. We are staying on the east side where we will have the best chance of seeing Moose, Bison, Wolves and other wildlife.
(300 MILES)DAY 11—Montana
Glacier National Park – Bozeman
We traverse much of Montana from north to south keeping to secondary roads when possible. Keep your eyes open for wildlife because Montana has far more animals than people! We overnight in lovely Bozeman, the gateway to Yellowstone National Park.
(250 MILES)DAY 12—Yellowstone
Bozeman – Yellowstone – Tetons – Jackson Hole
We cross into Wyoming and experience the world’s first National Park in Yellowstone...a park larger than some US states. Following our visits to Old Faithful Geyser and other Yellowstone attractions, our day continues with another National Park...the Grand Tetons are truly awe-inspiring! We end this full day in the resort town of Jackson Hole.
(322 MILES)DAY 13—Wagon Trails
Jackson Hole – Elko
The American West is expansive, but even so we will be in 4 states today as we make our way back toward the Pacific Coast. We will pass through the same mountain ranges and high deserts that settlers traveling by wagon train found so daunting as we drop into the Great Basin.
(320 MILES)DAY 14—California Trail
Elko – Truckee
We follow the California Trail and visit the Interpretive Center before spending our last evening together in Truckee.
(250 MILES)DAY 15—Back to the Bay
Truckee – Sierra City – San Francisco
It may the our final day, but it’s no less fulfilling than any other. We will ride through the largest alpine valley in North America and into the heart of Gold Country before descending into the Central Valley of California and brush past the state capitol before returning to San Francisco, tired but happy after two weeks of exploring the Great American West!
